Realizing that sound travels as a wave and not as a ray, I decided to build a ripple tank as a visualizing tool for my sculptures. A ripple tank uses a glass-bottomed dish and a small amount of water to allow waves to cast shadows, making them easily visible. Mine's got a spiral barrier to demonstrate sound's propagation through my forms.
